Notes - The first document is a copy of an article written in the Official American Airmail Catalogue, Fifth Edition, Volume 4 Page 1681. The article discusses the first commercial airmail flight from Edmonton to Athabasca, which occurred on February 23, 1931 with 873 pieces of mail on board. The company that brought the mail was Commercial Airways Ltd, with the pilot being Wop May. Wop May was a co-owner of the company, and also flew the plane back from Athabasca to Edmonton with 1083 pieces of mail. Commercial Airways Ltd was purchased just three years after it was started, by Canadian Airways Ltd. Canadian Airways Ltd would later become the largest air service operating in western Canada. The second and third pages in this set of documents contain lists of the postmasters who operated the post office in Athabasca from 1901 - 1937 (3 pages) |
