Solution sought l? ws Continued from Page A l to take my granddaughter fishing someday." Chad O'Hagan and and Dave Lattery of Stettler took time off work to scoop fish. " I think what we're doing is something pretty good," said Mr. O'Hagan. But he hopes fish won't have to be moved next year. So do a half- a- dozen fisheries experts from across Western Canada who put their heads together at the site Friday to see how to get the fish ladder working. After trading theories, the specialists agreed a favored remedy is installing a rock berm in the water to route fish towards the ladder's mouth. Reports will be filed and technicians will try to remedy the problem this summer, said Mr. Packham, who plans to continue moving fish today, and possibly next week. Area farmer Vic Inions hopes a solution is found soon. " I'm totally devastated," said the long- time resident who regrets his past support for the water retention structure that floods his fields in the spring. " I never thought we'd have these kinds of problems with fish," said the self- professed wildlife lover, who recalls that watching fish jump upstream was " one of the highlights of the year. " We're doing something against nature." he adds. " I don't think any project should ' do that." |
