Notes - In this document, written in 1994, Eileen Hendy gives a brief history of the Athabasca Chamber of Commerce; which was formed as The Athabasca Landing Board of Trade on October 18, 1908. In 1930 The Board of Trade became affiliated with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The Board was later renamed The Athabasca and District Chamber of Commerce. The Board was active in pursuing many new developments in the Athabasca area, such as the railway, new roads, new business and industry development, communication, agriculture, and new signage for the area. Ms. Hendy gives a thorough description of the Chamber's actions and periods of inactivity from 1908 - 1994 (7 pages) |
